Maceo Parker kicks off Talcott Mountain Festival
Hartford Symphony Orchestra’s summer program opens this Friday in Simsbury’s Talcott Mountain with a set list of R&B and soul music. Director Edward Cumming and the HSO are joined by David Foster and the Mohegan Sun All-Stars (formerly the house band of Willimantic’s famous Shaboo Night Club) and pillar-of-funk saxophonist Maceo Parker (pictured above).
The series continues July 2 and 3 with “Celebrate America,” which includes Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture and John Philip Sousa’s Stars and Stripes Forever. July 10 features fully orchestrated ABBA hits with guest conductor Glen Adsit. On July 15 Michael Cavanaugh of the hit Broadway musical Movin’ Out teams with the orchestra for Billy Joel and other classic rock songs. Gates for the concerts open at 6 p.m.; advanced lawn tickets are $20, $5 for kids.
