Los Angeles (E! Online) – While it may not technically be a “Gangsta’s Paradise,” rapper Coolio is skipping jail time for rehab, so things are looking up.

The 45-year old entertainer, born Artis Leon Ivey Jr., pleaded guilty to a felony drug charge, as well as misdemeanor counts of battery and possession, stemming from his March 6 arrest at Los Angeles International Airport. Airport security found cocaine and a smoking device in Coolio’s luggage, and once they attempted to open the bag, authorities claim that the former star grabbed one of the screener’s arms to halt the search.
On Friday, the “Fantastic Voyage” hitmaker was ordered to complete an 18-month drug diversion education and treatment program.
Coolio will be eligible to ask a judge for a dismissal if he can provide proof of the program’s completion and, more importantly, demonstrate that his rehab stint was successful.
Coolio is due back in court on September 28 for a progress check.
