A NUMBERS GAME
A James Van Alden Film
A Numbers Game tells the story of Neal Black, a master salesman. Neal is
the best salesman there is. He can close a telephone sale in 5 minutes
and he knows he’s good. His room is booming and selling products like
there’s no tomorrow. Catherine Westwood is the young woman whose
company Neal is hired to save.
Catherine Westwood’s room is the opposite of Neal’s. Her salespeople just
can’t get it together, and she has no idea how to make them work. The
owner of the company, Harold, stops by Catherine’s office to threaten her
with a closing down the company if she can’t turn her sales around.
Harold asks Neal to step in and try to turn Catherine’s room around.
Catherine, of course, is completely resistant to the idea. She doesn’t want
any man coming into her room and telling her what to do and Neal isn’t
the kind of guy to take orders from a woman. He doesn’t believe that
someone as beautiful as Catherine should be running a sales room. Neal
and Catherine fight it out, but Neal emerges victorious and convinces
Catherine to let him try to fix her room by taking it over.
Though Neal’s methods are unorthodox, he quickly teaches Catherine’s
salespeople how to really close a deal. Pretty soon the numbers are
adding up and Catherine is ultimately forced to admit that Neal has
saved her from closure. Though she is afraid to tell him herself, she finally
goes to thank Neal for making her company what it should be and
helping her keep it open against the odds.
