Wednesday “Humpday” Pizza Party at Oakfire Pizzeria and Pub Benefits Reading to Kids

Even in times of recession, one restaurant group is giving back and making it affordable for everyone to be charitable

Los Angeles, CA (Wednesday, August 26, 2009)-The group behind the famed Oakfire Pizzeria and Pub, Spanish Kitchen, The Belmont, and The Olive (coming soon) has teamed with Goodie Bag Events to bring monthly Wednesday “Humpday” parties that will benefit a different charity and undoubtedly attract a fun, hip, and attractive crowd with a social conscience.

Wednesday September 9th (7pm) at Oakfire Pizzeria and Pub will mark the first of these events with Reading to Kids being the beneficiary. The events are geared towards people who enjoy great food, great ambience, a fun crowd and appreciate value. Now with these monthly events, diners can feel food about themselves and not worry about their wallets because they are enjoying the same value but benefiting a charitable cause as well. All party goers are eligible to win the raffle prize which this month is a rare opportunity to shop and get styled with the famed Los Angeles boutique owner, Lisa Kline.

Despite the current trend in restaurateurs cutting costs due to the decline in people eating out, Greg Morris prioritizes fresh ingredients and giving back to the community as much as he can. Greg is encouraging people to attend the event each event by offering an affordable prix fix menu ($32 with a drink included) and Humpday drinks specials; a portion of each guests bill this month will go to Reading To Kids. Each month the event will rotate restaurants.

Limited space available. Contact Arielle Adelman at goodiebagevents@yahoo.com or Heidi at heidi@thespanishkitchen.com for a reservation.

“A relationship roller coaster ride with funny highs and dramatic lows.” – Movie Vine

Written and directed by Alex Ranarivelo, produced by Paul J. Alessi, and co-produced by Amie Barsky and Baptiste DeRivel. Knuckle Draggers takes a humorous but very real look at the state of modern male/female relationships. Knuckle Draggers is the relationship movie from a male perspective.

The story follows Ethan, an all around nice guy who gets dumped because he wasn’t able to provide his fiancée with the plush, stable life her friends were living. Desperate to get her back, he seeks help from his older brother Kyle, a tough talking sexist who seems to have a way with the ladies. Kyle gives Ethan a crash course on women and dating much to the disgust of some of Ethan’s female friends. Just when it seems Kyle’s misogynistic theories are about to prove themselves true, things take an unexpected turn and force Ethan, Kyle and their friends to reassess their views on relationships.

In the spirit of movies like Swingers and Brothers McMullen, Knuckle Draggers gives us a unique point of view, a timely message, and a lot of heart. Not another indie film about friends hanging out, Knuckle Draggers provokes questions about what modern couples want versus what they need, and how their needs may not have evolved much from those of our caveman ancestors.

Scottish actor Ross McCall heads a dynamic ensemble cast in the lead role of ‘Ethan’. His credits include the HBO miniseries ‘Band of Brothers’ and most recently ‘Crash’, the Starz TV series. Paul J. Alessi, plays ‘Kyle’, Ethan’s sexist outspoken brother. His credits include the Ten ‘til Noon and the TV series Desire. Omar Gooding plays Ethan’s best friend ‘Russell’. Omar’s credits include ‘Baby Boy’, the HBO series ‘Deadwood’ and he’s just joined the cast of the upcoming Jerry Bruckheimer TV series ‘Miami Trauma’. Amie Barsky plays ‘Patricia’, Ethan’s strong-minded female best friend. The film also includes Danielle Nicolet ‘The Starter Wife’, Justin Baldoni ‘Heroes’, Serah D’Laine ‘General Hospital’ and Jennifer Alden ‘Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen’.

Knuckle Draggers features a musical score by Austin Wintory, whose credits include the multiple award-winning Captain Abu Raed. A dynamic soundtrack accompanies the score, including tracks by J Mello & Dave Navarro, Tyler Hilton, Marching Band, and Jennifer Love-Hewitt & Sophie B. Hawkins.

The Los Angeles Premiere takes place Wednesday, August 12th at 7:30pm., at the Laemmle Sunset 5, 8000 Sunset Blvd. West Hollywood, 90046, 323-848-3500

WHAT THE CREDIT CARD COMPANIES DONT WANT YOU TO KNOW

Author Kenny Golde Shares His Secrets to Negotiating Settlements on Credit Cards in

“The Do-It-Yourself Bailout: How I Reduced My Credit Card Debt from

$212,000 to $30,000 in Six Months”

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) April 2, 2009 — In “The Do-It-Yourself Bailout,” author/filmmaker Kenny Golde tells the story of how he reduced his credit card debt from $212,000 to only $30,000 in six months and avoided bankruptcy by negotiating settlements directly with major U.S. banks.  The book relates the emotional journey that took him from the brink of bankruptcy to being nearly debt free.  Golde’s story is meant to provide others who are struggling with overwhelming credit balances with the tools to settle their own debt. Based on his personal experiences, Golde shares the secret to dealing with intimidating collection agency phone calls, offers valuable tips on how to settle a lawsuit, tells readers how to get settlement agreements in writing and shares many other lessons from the trenches of debt warfare. http://www.SettleYourCreditCards.com.

In this failing economy, there are a growing number of entrepreneurs and individuals who, like Golde, are forced to cover both business and living expenses on their credit cards. “I was overwhelmed,” says Golde of the painful weight of his debt.  “I was paying nearly $4000 a month in interest. I was afraid. I was ashamed. I withdrew from my family and friends. I couldn’t see a way out of this debt.”

In a June 16th article in the New York Times regarding credit card debt, it was revealed that “As they confront unprecedented numbers of troubled customers, credit card companies are increasingly doing something they have historically scorned: settling delinquent accounts for substantially less than the amount owed.” Most consumers are not aware that this possibility even exists. Only after meeting with a bankruptcy attorney, Golde learned that it was possible to negotiate settlements on his credit card balances, but after extensive research he found little helpful information that told him how he might do it.  “All I found were debt settlement companies who advertised they could do it for me for a fee,” says Golde, “and it seemed they wanted me to believe I couldn’t do it myself so that I would have to pay them.”

Undaunted, he began negotiating with his creditors himself. In just a few months, Golde reduced his credit card balances by 85% and ultimately saved $115,000 in written-off debt.  Among his successful negotiations, he settled one account with a $76,000 balance for $25,000 and another with a $39,000 balance for $15,000.

With the goal of helping others find relief from their unmanageable debt, “The Do-It-Yourself Bailoutpresents consumers with an alternative to credit consultants and consolidators and empowers them to take on the banks themselves and potentially lower or eliminate their credit card debt without filing for bankruptcy.

Above all, Golde stresses the need to separate emotion and self-recrimination from debt, saying, “Every person out there is the C.E.O. of their own corporation, the corporation of ‘You.’  And you have the right to deal with finance and debt without emotion or judgment, the same way other businesses do.”

“The Do-It-Yourself Bailout: How I Reduced My Credit Card Debt from $212,000 To $30,000 in Six Months and Saved Over $100,000” is available on Golde’s website http://www.settleyourcreditcards.com and on Amazon.com.
